CLEANING TIPS TO FOLLOW

Brush and floss: Brush your teeth twice a day with FDA approved fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once a day.

Use the proper equipment: Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits your mouth comfortably. Consider using an electric or battery-operated toothbrush, which can reduce plaque and gingivitis.

Practice good technique. Hold your toothbrush at a slight angle aiming the bristles toward the area where your tooth meets your gum. Gently brush with short back-and-forth motions. Remember to brush the outside, inside and chewing surfaces of your teeth, as well as your tongue.

It is recommended to brush your teeth at least 2 to 3 minutes in total.

FOODS AND BEVERAGES TO CONSUME IN MODERATION

Wine: Red and white wine are notorious for staining teeth due to their acidic natures which can erode at tooth enamel.

Tea and coffee: Like wine, the ordinary black tea most people drink is rich in stain-promoting tannins. It is important to realize that tea is actually a bigger stainer than coffee.

Cola: Acidic and chromogen-rich, cola can cause significant staining. But even light-colored soft drinks are sufficiently acidic to promote staining of teeth by other foods and beverages.

Sports drinks: Recent research found that highly acidic sports drinks can soften tooth enamel setting the stage for staining

Intensely colored fruits: Blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cherries, and other dark-colored fruits can cause stains. If you eat them, try to drink a glass of water directly after consuming them to produce saliva with your mouth or better yet, brush your teeth if possible.

And of course!.sweets

Hard candies, chewing gum, popsicles, and other sweets often contain teeth-staining coloring agents. If your tongue turns a funny colour, dentists say, there’s a good chance that your teeth will be affected.

REGULAR PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE

Lastly, it’s important to follow up on your at-home care with a professional clean and regular examination. During your consultation, we are able to effectively and safely remove the built-up tartar that only a professional clean can remove.
